My name is James Schultz, co-owner and operator of The Guitar Store. After many years of working in and managing music stores in the Seattle area, I finally decided it was time to open the store I always wanted to shop at.
As a guitarist, I have spent endless hours and dollars looking for that right neck, tone, string, delay, or feeling. Working with guitarists, I have found that I am not alone. Everyone who enjoys playing, from the hobbyist to the professional, knows that thrill of picking up the right instrument. The one that writes songs for you. Everyone has different needs, and as we evolve, those needs change.
In the summer of 2000, I had an opportunity to spend part of an afternoon with Jim Marshall, who was in town to help celebrate the opening of the Experience Music Project. The store I was working at had just bought a very large collection of vintage amplifiers from Aspen Pittman. As Jim and I walked around the shop talking about some of these unique amps, many that he had built over thirty years before we met, he began to tell me stories of why they were built.
Players who came to his shop would tell him about the sound they were looking for, and why they needed to be louder and over-driven. These players he talked about were the pioneers of the British rock and roll scene in 1960s London. They had a place to go and talk to builders to develop the shape to their sound. I have carried this thought with me for the last eleven years, and now here at The Guitar Store, we bring you great instrument companies as well as a chance to meet local builders like Matt Miller of Miller Ampwerks or my lifelong friend, Aaron Andrews and his hand-crafted Andrews Guitars. We can help you find the right wood for your acoustic playing style or design a tube amp that gives you a signature tone.
We also understand that not every player will want to geek out that intensely, or maybe you are just starting to play and you really need the best value for your dollar. We research our offerings and hope to bring the finest product to every level of buyer available. Our prices are always competitive on our website and in our store. My offer is to give you the time you deserve and a product we can stand behind. Located at 8300 Aurora Ave. N, Seattle, WA 98103, we offer a showroom where you can find both the national brands you are looking for as well as unique offerings by Northwest builders. Our low retail overhead allows us to give you “internet pricing with in-store service”.
What we now have is the best store in Seattle to buy a guitar, bass, ukulele, banjo, effects pedal, or amplifier. Please feel free to shop online or come in to the store today!
